Waste Water Treatment
One of the biggest goals and responsibilities of the Public Works Department is to protect the City's investment in its infrastructure and of its building and equipment.
The Public Works Department follows the City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) which incorporates plans for capital expenditures for the City's streets, storm sewer system, sanitary sewer system, park system, waste water treatment and all public buildings. The CIP is generated through the efforts of the Finance and Public Works Departments. Although the CIP outlines projects and equipment purchases and replacements - each project needs specific review and approval from the Delano City Council, Planning Commission and Park and Recreation Committee. The Delano City Council and City Staff review and update the CIP on an annual basis.
The Public Works Department is always first in line to use volunteer services. The City has in place the Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) program that has assisted during flooding and other civic related activities. Public Works has also benefited from programs such as Sentence to Serve (STS) and the Work Force.
