Granite Works Site Proposed Redevelopment

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN:  The City of Delano is working with two private development groups to complete a proposed redevelopment project of an industrial site within the city. The proposed project would redevelop the existing Granite Works Site to the west of the intersection of River Street (County State Aid Highway 17) and Elm Avenue within Delano, MN.The project would include the demolition and removal of the existing industrial buildings, remediation of existing contamination at the site, and the construction of three new multi-unit apartment buildings with up to 200 total units on the 17.1-acre site.

The development will also include connections to existing City streets, below ground and surface parking areas, trails, a park feature, and a regional stormwater treatment basin. The development will connect to existing City utilities (sewer and water). As part of the proposed project the City will also stabilize and improve degraded areas of the banks of the South Fork of the Crow River adjacent to the site. The development will be considered a Planned Unit Development (PUD).

Due to the number of residential housing units associated with the project, a mandatory Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) is required per Minnesota Rules 4410.4300, subpart 19. The Draft EAW will be available for public comment starting Monday, August 10, 2020. The City will accept written comments (via mail or email) on the Draft EAW during the public review and comment period, which concludes Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. Comments may also be provided during a public information meeting for the Draft EAW, which will be held during the regular monthly meeting of the City, open to the public, which will occur on Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at 7:00 p.m.
