Whenever you drive down the street, walk on a bike trail, go to the park or flush a toilet - you are coming in contact with the City of Delano's Public Works Department.
The Public Works Department is comprised by seven (7) divisions:
-
-
Sanitary Sewer
-
Fleet Maintenance
-
Park Maintenance
-
Building Maintenance
-
Engineering
-
Waste Water Treatment
One of the biggest goals and responsibilities of the Public Works Department is to protect the City's investment in its infrastructure and of its building and equipment.
The Public Works Department follows the City's Capital Improvement Program (CIP) which incorporates plans for capital expenditures for the City's streets, storm sewer system, sanitary sewer system, park system, waste water treatment and all public buildings. The CIP is generated through the efforts of the Finance and Public Works Departments. Although the CIP outlines projects and equipment purchases and replacements - each project needs specific review and approval from the Delano City Council, Planning Commission and Park and Recreation Committee. The Delano City Council and City Staff review and update the CIP on an annual basis.
The engineering services for the City of Delano are contracted with Wenck Associates of Maple Plain. Vince Vander Top is the acting City Engineer. Mr. Vander Top's primary role is plan reviews and specifications for street designs, sewer and water systems, manage the street reconstruction program and coordinate the City's surface water run off program. You can contact Vince Vander Top at 763 479-5124 or by e-mail at vvandertop@wenck.com.
The Public Works Department is always first in line to use volunteer services. The City has in place the Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) program that has assisted during flooding and other civic related activities. Public Works has also benefited from programs such as Sentence to Serve (STS) and the Work Force.
Schedule:
This Spring, the Public Works Department will begin announcing their weekly schedule to allow resident to have knowledge of construction and public works activities throughout town. Please be advised that this is a sampling of work activities and some items may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
