Sewer Rates Explained
During the six winter months (November, December, January, February, March and April) for every thousand gallons of water used residents will be charged $5.48. During the six summer months (May, June, July, August, September, October) the previous six winter months are averaged. The reason this is done is because during the winter months residents are not watering lawns, trees, gardens, filling kids wading pools, washing cars in the driveway etc. - so a more accurate usage occurs. During the summer months a lot of city water goes directly into the ground and not into the sanitary sewer system. (The utility bills have a note indicating which season we are in.)
The City will credit a resident's sewer bill if someone waters in April or December, if a water line breaks during the winter months or a toilet leaks etc. Residents who believe their bill is incorrect they can submit a letter explaining why a credit is needed. City Staff will review the request and refund according to guidelines set by City Council. Please submit your name, address, account number and an explanation of what happened. You can contact City Hall in person at 234 2nd Street North, by phone (763 972-0550), by fax (763 972-6174) or you can e-mail the City Clerk directly.
