Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT)

About the CERT program:

The City of Delano is developing a Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT). The CERT program follows a national model that promotes readiness in the communities in the case of an emergency or natural disaster.  Members are not "on-call" in the traditional sense, but rather "ready" when needed.

"The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.  Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.  CERT members are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community."  www.citizencorps.gov

Delano hopes to build an active Team that can have a meaningful impact on the community.  If you have questions, or would like to learn more about the program, please e-mail corps@delano.mn.us or call 763 972-0581.  Click here for an APPLICATION.

DELANO DREAM TEAM II

The Initiative Foundation is a non-profit whose goal is to see non-metro area towns thrive.  They have given Delano a small grant to help us facilitate a process by which the whole community comes together to decide what we need to do to keep Delano strong and thriving.  We started with a community visioning session where everyone who lives, works, plays, worships and otherwise has an interest in the future of Delano had the opportunity to be heard from.   The participants voted on their top priorities, and those included Industrial Development/job creation, and Downtown Development, including retail, cultural center, riverfront development.  Task forces were formed around those priority areas and ongoing community involvement is needed and strongly encouraged.

The Initiative Foundation has a limited amount of grant money available for non-profits and loan money available for businesses, as well as access to other types of resources to help us move our projects forward.  The key resource, however, is the energy and ideas of the people who care enough to be part of this process.  Come, and bring your ideas.
