Before 1896 we do not have much infor-mation regarding the fire departments in the City of Delano. The Department has no records but we do show two departments. Our records show that on February of 1896 the Delano Village Council met to organize the Delano Fire Department. There was to be a Chief, three assistants, and a fire warden.
On April 4, 1896 a meeting was called to order at City Hall for the purpose of re-organizing the new fire department. There were 21 men present for roll call, and accepted to act as firemen. Also two men were nominated to fill the vacancies of two other men. The following officers were duly elected: Geo Goodrich - Chief Engineer, N.K. Coffin - First Assistant, H.J. Bock - Second Assistant, C.H. Green - Third Assistant W.M. Mowatt - Secretary and F.A. Knoll - Treasurer.
A fire warden was not elected in the minutes. The three assistants were to meet and select their men before the next meeting on April 7, 1896. At that meeting the teams were selected and First Assistant was the Hook and Ladder Co. Second Assistant was the Hose Cart No. 1. Third Assistant was the Hose Cart No. 2. April 16, 1896 was the first regular meeting for the Delano Fire Department. At that meeting the Chief announced that he would have practice as soon as possible.
