Garbage Collection

The City of Delano provides refuse services within the City through the services of a contractor.  The City contracts for the service with one provider and the contract is bid regularly.  The purpose of the competitive contract is to provide market prices while controlling the impact of heavy trucking on local streets.  Refuse trucks place a heavy burden on the City's street infrastructure.

Presently, the City contracts with Randy's Sanitation, Inc. for refuse and recycling collection.  The present contract is effective January 1, 2009 - December 31, 2013.  In addition to the weekly refuse and recycling collection, the contract requires Randy's Sanitation to provide free curbside compost collection (April - November), a special spring clean-up drop site, and year-round special materials pickup curbside.

Recycling Changes January, 2013

Solid waste and recycling services provided to the City of Delano residents by Randy’s Environmental Services will be changing the week of January 13.

The primary service changes will pertain to recycling. You won’t have to sort and separate paper and cardboard from bottles and cans or plastics any longer. This will be done by Randy’s Environmental Services at their facility. This means you can place all your usual recyclables together into a 65 gallon recyclables cart. These new recyclables cart with a tan lid will be delivered to all residents on Friday, January 11, 2013 or Saturday, January 12, 2013. You can start using the recyclables cart as soon as you receive it! Changes to the recycling pick-up schedule will also be changed. Instead of weekly pickup - recyclables will now be picked up every two weeks. The attached calendar will give you the pick-up schedule for your residence.

Also beginning the week of January 13, all Delano households can recycle food waste and food-soiled paper using Randy’s Environmental Services curbside food waste recycling program called Blue Bag Organics. These Blue Bag Organics bags can be placed inside your regular refuse cart. Items placed inside the Blue Bag Organics bags will then be sorted at the Randy’s Environmental Services facility. There is no additional fee for Blue Bag Organics Waste Recycling Service. To sign up for the Blue Bag Organics service, contacts Randy’s Environmental Services at or call 763 972-3335 by Tuesday, January 8, 2013. More information can be found in the attached brochure.

For further questions regarding the new single-sort recycling or the Blue Bag Organics contact Randy’s Environmental Services at 763-972-3335.
