Dog Registration - Delano, Minnesota
The City of Delano requires that your dog be registered as soon as it is six months old. Registeration can be done on-line or in person at Delano City Hall, 234 2nd Street North. Proof of rabies vaccination must be provided at the time of registration. The City of Delano limits households to two dogs over the age of six months.
Registration of your dog with the City of Delano is completely free, easy to get, and good for your dog. If your dog is lost, the City registration helps locate the owners. Registration of your dog also saves in additional non-registered fees in the event your dog is picked up by a City Official and impounded.
There is no charge to register your dog with the City of Delano. You can register on-line or in person at Delano City Hall, during normal business hours. Registration will be required on an annual basis, by June 30th of each year. Your dog will keep its original registration tag and registration number. If your tag becomes lost or damaged; replacement tags can be purchased through the City of Delano at a cost of $5.00.
Registration tags must be worn at all times when off the owners property.
All dogs over six months old that reside within the City of Delano are required to have current rabies vaccination. Animals are not required to wear a rabies tag, but verification of current rabies vaccination by a licensed veterinarian should be available upon request.

Runaway and Impounded Pets
Dogs that are picked up by a City Official will be impounded.

Being impounded is not a happy experience for the dog or its owners. In addition to the emotional toll and the inconvenience, there can be a significant cost to bring your dog home. This fee schedule does not include any additional veterinarian expenses or impound kennel imposed boarding expenses that may be required.

*Non-Registered Dogs will be charged an additional fine for non-registration. All fines shall be for the life of the dog(s) and their owner(s), the offenses shall not be related to a calendar year. In the event the dog owner(s) changes residency within the City of Delano, the aforementioned schedule is also applicable.
As a responsible pet owner, it's important to ensure that if your pet ever strayed from home, that they would easily be identified for a safe return. In an addition to registering your dog - pet ID tag and personalized collars are ideal for both new and older pets. Include contact information listed (phone number and/or address) and have your dog wear it all times. In the event your dog becomes lost - this information will get your dog home much faster!
Clean up after your pet!
Pet owners are required to remove and dispose of your dog's waste. This applies to waste on their property, city sidewalks, streets and parks and neighbor's yards. You must be prepared to clean up after your dog when walking them, either with a bag or some other means. Take advantage of our pet waste stations found throughout City parks and trails. If you are not near one, take the waste home and dispose of properly.
